Procedures for Entering Japan

Oversea students who are going to study in Japan are required to get 'College Student' visa to enter and stay in Japan.
The brief application procedures are as follows;

¡ôJapanese Government Scholarship Students

1.Obtain a passport.

2.Receive a Notification of your Japanese Government Scholarship award and placement in Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ or a Letter of Admission.
¡¾Embassy Recommendation¡¿the Notification will be sent through the Japanese embassy/consulate in your country.
¡¾Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Recommendation¡¿A Letter of Admission as a Japanese Government Scholarship issued by Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ is sent.

3.Get a "College Student" visa.
For details regarding visas, please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.

¡ôOther International Students

There are two processes for applying for a 'College Student' visa from outside Japan. Getting a Certificate of Eligibility and applying for the visa is a general way.

1.Procedures with a Certificate of Eligibility

1-1.Obtain a passport.

1-2.Gain a Letter of Admission issued by Ä¢¹½´«Ã½.

1-3.Apply for a Certificate of Eligibility.

A person who is eligible to apply for your Certificate of Eligibility¡ù should go to the Nagoya Immigration Bureau in Japan and apply for a Certificate of Eligibility.
¡ù The person who is eligible to apply for your Certificate of Eligibility: Yourself or your proxy

1-4. Your Certificate of Eligibility will be sent to the person who submitted the application to the Nagoya Immigration Bureau when the application is permitted.

1-5. Make your proxy send your Certificate of Eligibility to you as soon as possible.

1-6. Get a "College Student" visa.
Take your passport, Certificate of Eligibility and Letter of Admission from Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ to the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate and apply for a visa. For details regarding visas, Please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.

The decision to issue the Certificate of Eligibility is made by the Ministry of Justice. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ does NOT bear any responsibility for the rejection of the application for the Certificate.

2.Procedures without a Certificate of Eligibility

2-1.Obtain a Passport

2-2.Take your passport and Letter of Admission or Notification of Acceptance from Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ to the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate, and apply for a 'College Student' visa. For details regarding visas, please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.
